The Introduction to Digital Marketing Fall 2010 class will begin on August 30, 2010. This is the 4th semester I will teach the class to marketing students through the Michigan Tech University Department of Business and Economics. It is always exciting to connect with students and discuss my most favorite topics…..Digital Marketing and Emerging Media.
Although the fundamentals of marketing have not changed since I have been teaching this class, the channels and tools to connect with customers have evolved, grown, morphed and launched at incredible speed! Facebook and YouTube audiences have grown to unprecedented numbers. Facebook has grown to 500 million users worldwide and YouTube is now tracking 2 billion daily visitors (AMAZING YOUTUBE STAT: it took 4 years to reach the first billion daily visitors and the 2nd billion took only 7 months).
Foursquare, Googlewave and Square have all launched in 2010 introducing location based, real time tools and instant payment options for consumers. Good marketers know that new options for consumers are new opportunities for marketers. With that understanding, the class will explore some considerations associated with emerging trends.
The Introduction to Digital Marketing Fall 2010 class will remain consistent with previous semesters by providing learning through the class textbook, downloadable lecture videos, online tests, internet scavenger hunts and a team project. This semester will include additional lectures from industry experts and more insights into emerging media and trend.
The class is designed to enable students to study, learn and apply. Please explore, engage, have fun and consider how your learning can be applied to your future marketing career. Please use this blog to post any insights or thoughts and I will do the same.
